Jubing Kristianto, Music in the Family Made Him Changed

I knew about Jubing Kristianto around twenty years ago. I accidentally found his name on my search on Yahoo. I like classical guitar and I would like to learn to play another classical guitar song scores.

Luckily, there was internet in 2000 era. So I tried to find another scores that can help me to learn other classical songs.

While searching, I found the name of Jubing Kristianto. It was not familiar to me, but I clicked it anyway. At that time, he used geocities, the free blog from Yahoo, if I am not mistaken. He shared his scores and links to other websites that could help another guitarists to learn fingerstyle.

Later on, I saw he made his own website. Jubing.net. It seems professional.

From Jubing Kristianto’s life and background, I took three values that made him like today.

First - Start from the family

If we read about famous musicians, most of them have families who like music. Fathers, mothers, and family members like music in their daily lives. Mozart became great; Beethoven became famous; Bach was marvelous; all of them had families which loved music.

The same with Jubing. He had a happy family. His father and mother liked to sing when he was a kid. They had a guitar at home. His father played guitar just so-so, because he didn’t get formal music education.

Jubing liked to play guitar as the accompaniment in school choir. Somebody or some people sang, he played strumming to accompany the singing.

But, from his confession, he realized about the uniqueness of guitar when a school friend played guitar in another way.

“Oh, what kind of playing do you play,” maybe Jubing asked like that.

“Classical way,” Doni (not a real name) maybe answered like that.

After that, Jubing asked his parents to give permission to study at a Guitar Course in Semarang, East Java, where he and his family lived. Start from the beginning until he was qualified to follow the competition of free style guitar composition.

He won it.

Second - Learn from mentors

He kept practicing when he had to move to continue his education in Jakarta. He didn’t stop learning and improving himself. He knew if he was satisfied with his ability, he would end his capacity.

He continued his study from qualified mentors and improved a lot in progress.

He spent his time to practice guitar while he was still a college student in Jakarta, and after finishing the study; and although he was busy with his work as a journalist, he kept practicing.

Third - Keep sharing and do what he loves to earn for living

It's hard to change profession when we have done it for a long time

Thirteen years become a journalist and now he wanted to change the way of get the earning for living.

It is not easy to do such thing.

From the beginning, he had already shared what he knew, and now he focuses his life for guitar. Nothing else.

Starting from zero salary, now he has already got what he loves to do. His passion in playing fingerstyle guitar gives him money to continue his living.

If you want to follow Jubing’s step to do what you love and get wages from it, it is not too late to start, as long as you have already thought it as your call.

Jubing keeps sharing and do what he loves. Many people don’t have such luxurious thing like that. They do the jobs that they don’t like, and their excuses are typical the same, “I don’t have any choices.”

We do have choices to decide what we want to live.

So, from Jubing, we can study about choice and decision to live as an ordinary person or extraordinary person. That’s difficult to choose, but the lives are ours, living in the ways that we like or dislike.

That’s our decision to make.

Jubing has inspired me to play fingerstyle guitar, as a hobby and also he has showed me to do what I love to do for my life.
